KYB vs Monroe (Shocks and Struts Comparison)

The tires are the connection between drivers and the ground. And there are shocks which are the pillows that works out to soften every blow tires take. The springs  alleviate the initial blow through  the holes, but you need shock to keep the contact between driver and the road to make it a safer ride.

So, people, must take care of their shocks, and  if you had some problems about it,change them!

When  people  realize they need new  shocks or struts, their next question are gonna be  which brand is the best? Examples ofKYB, Monroe, Bilstein, Gabriel, Fox, and Rancho and all the others. Now we will show you the comparison of KYB and Monroe brands.

KYB vs Monroe (Which is Better?)

Presumbal, you have done some research on , Autoanything.com about  Oreilly’s, or any of the other auto parts stores. You may have found  too many offerings on Amazon, but now you will  know which of theese two cheapest brands are in the best use according to money that you pay.

So Monroe is the cheapest one and  will be in the use of you want them to do. However, in my research,by looking at the base model ,Monroe isn’t built as well as KYB.

Both of them are decent shocks, but when you look at the perspectives of benefit yo should go with the KYBs. While the KYB costs a little bit more but they give you  much more value for the money and your spring’s.time of use will be much longer.

Plus, with the KYB’s  progressed spring rates, your car will perform way better  than it did from the factory.

Now, this isn’t just me as being united on the matter of  Monroe shocks as a brand, they are able to  make a good product whenever you want your car to make tyou feel like it has just come from factory. By the way in my researches I found that Monroe shocks are made in the USA , so if that’s a big element in your choices,ıt would bring more power!

If  I would make a choice,I prefer to pay extra 20 dollars for KYB to last my shocks last longer improve performance, and they are very easy to repair by yourself. And, the KYBs will give you some extra bolts that woud hep you replace them with old corroded ones.

Specific Model Comparisons

Note: Links below show sample products in each brand’s catalog. You’ll need to search for shocks for your specific vehicle on Amazon or auto parts merchant of your choice.

“Restoring to Original”

Monroe OESpectrum shown

This is the sample model of both brands and ıt has meant to do one thing: restore your cars’ handling specialities as ıt  came from factory.

KYB, it’s their Excel G Shock line, and Monroe, the OESpectrum shock absorber. With some Google searching, I can buy the KYBs product for about 5 dollars less than the Monroes products and  most  customers would choose the KYBs because of the views that came up from friends and reviewers comments about KYB is the best one.

Basically theese two brands uses are to bring your car back like it has just left from the factory.According to me you should go with the cheapset option that you would find.

“Better Than Stock”

KYB brings their monotube Gas-a-Just and Monroe comes to the table with their OESpectrum Monotube variant. Both of these options consist of a single tube, but, however, there are separate compartments inside to allow the gas to expand and contract without adversely affecting your vehicle’s damping properties. From what I could find, Monroe is the cheapest in this shocks’ class but most customers prefer to go with the KYB because according to tests they tend to last longer.

Heavy-Duty Truck Things

KYB’s Monomax and Monroe’s Reflex truck shock absorbers are the two you will probably decide if you own a light truck and don’t want Bilsteins..

Monroe’s Longevity has been a big  problem for many customers, but, with a savings of almost $ 30 per shock so you could save your money in the long run if you go with the Monroe brand.

In my choice, I’d go with the KYB option. They will  last longer, are built with more powerful internals, and more customers tend to like them for tough use.

How Much Will All of This Cost?

Taking into account 3-4 hours of labor, such a job will cost you $ 400-800 for four corners at an auto shop. For you to do it yourself, just factor in the cost of parts ($200-$300), and then maybe 4 hours of your time and all of your Saturday to get it done. I’m saying this because you’ll probably want to change bushing, sway bar end link, or even do some fluid work while you are down there.

If you consider all of your bushings, springs, and drivetrain components, it relies on your car to go down the road without much abuse., then I’d say your shocks are so much important fo your safety.

If you do a lot of off-roading or like to “drive with spirits”, make sure you throw your pony out and pay a little extra for shocks. which will actually develop your driving experience, performance, and safety.

How to Know Your Shocks Have Gone Bad

İn fact we have covered this subject in the article with details, but for a short version, here’s your best option for deciding that you need new shocks or not.

You Don’t Know When They Were Last Replaced

This one is too easy, and might be the best advice I’ve ever received  about car repair. “.Take a notebook ,replace that peace, and write down when you did it ıf you have,ıf you have no idea about time that ıt has been replaced.”

Your Car or Truck Bounces

While this method will show some changes  from vehicle to vehicle, it’s been a really good measure for me since the time  I have noticed this information.

First, go around to the back of your vehicle, place both hands on one of the right rear wheels.. Then, push it down with your whole body weight and add some strength.

Take note of times that it bounces. If your shocks are fine, your car should bounce once and ıt does not make you feel like ıt is sloppy.

Think of it this way, if your shocks don’t do their job then the springs will take up part of the other space., and your car will act like a spring!

Do you remember those old ’80s Cadillacs that moved more like boats on bumpy roads? You’d be flying more than driving, and the shocks were insufficent so They don’t offer much if your ride has any handling improvement above just having springs for your drive.
